Zany fun loving portraits
"Squirrel" NFS
12x12 Acrylic on canvas
My daughter incognito
"Grandparents Blessings" NFS
12x12 Acrylic on canvas
Our Grandson, whom is a blessing to us.
Though in the past I've painted portraits in Watercolor or Chalk Pastel, I'm presently challenging myself with painting portraits in acrylic. It becomes challenging to create with fast drying medium and I don't use retarders preferring to keep my work area as non-toxic as possible.
I have to admit I am having great fun with this.

Dancing For Joy updated
Dancing for joy (no longer available)
Sometimes a painting needs to settle for awhile. The previous version of this was hanging where I saw it every morning after it came back from an exhibition. It felt unfinished to me so back on the easel it went for a work-over. The painting now has depth and is I believe a stronger piece.Monday, March 30, 2015
Flora and Fauna
In southern Alberta the sticky Gumweed blossoms were thickly in bloom. When I went to photograph them I noticed a wee bunny sitting so still so as not to be seen.
"Hiding in the Gumweed" SOLD
Acrylic on wrapped canvas 5X5 inches
"Listening to the wind that swept over the mountain"
Acrylic on wrapped canvas 5X5 inches
"Cheeky Gray forest spirit"
Time spent camping in Waterton National Park each year has given much inspiration for painting bears and wildflowers that are abundant in spring. It makes braving the cold, rainy fog and showers worthwhile especially when the sun pops out and mountain views are stunning.
"Little Black" SOLD
Acrylic on wrapped canvas 5X5 inches
At days end when exciting the parking lot at Red Rock Canyon this wonderful view met my eyes; two Elders (an old tree and the mountain) silently watch over the spring blossoms.
"The Two Elders"
Acrylic on wrapped canvas 12x12 inches

We enjoyed watching momma bear and her cub from the previous year as they ambled amongst the wildflowers digging grubs, roots and bulbs. The cub was wearing a lighter colored saddle blanket which was wonderfully distinct.

New Growth and new paintings
I love the rich colors abundant in the wilds. As an artist many hours are spent in the field researching, watching, photographing birds and critters that are found there. Immersing oneself in Nature is good for the spirit, and the bonus is watching animals watch us as this quirky young male moose did.

For the sake of Abstract
These pieces were worked up for an exhibition on Abstract Art in Calgary showing at The House Coffee Sanctuary by Emmaus Fine Art Group.
"Flights of Fantasy"
16"x12"
Acrylic paint and varied paper on stretched canvas
The goal was to complete an abstract that had no bearing on realism, though now matter how hard I worked layering the piece it looks like a bird in flight to me, I guess bird passion seeps into all I do.
"Dancing Circles Under The Sun" framed 9"x11"
Small painting experimenting with Inktense Pencil on recycled paper.
"Joyously Celebrating"
Mixed MediaTextile framed 10"x10"
sketch framed with mat 10"x10"
The image on the left is a mixed media textile piece worked up from the smaller drawing on the right.
Initially I was satisfied when the drawing was completed but then I got to thinking about how much more depth and texture fabrics would lend to the design, so off I went on a stitching frenzy two days before delivery, nothing like a time crunch to spur one on. Enjoy!
