Portraits at The Paint Spot Edmonton
I entered two paintings in the Big, Big Portrait Show at the Naess Gallery, The Paint Spot, Edmonton, July 7-August 23, 2016. The show ran in conjunction with the Edmonton art walk.
Off my right shoulder is a painting of my daughter incognito with a squirrel on her head and above her, the orange cat on blue is my painting. I love that the call for portraits was an open call and that the work produced displays a wonderful range of talent from pure beginners to very accomplished artists.
Under my Spell
12x12 Acrylic on canvas
This neighbourhood cat had to be painted due his wonderful intense expression. Recently I simplified the background by covering it with ricepaper collage and repainting (the original of it is posted earlier on this blog). Sometimes paintings take a few years before they become what they need to be, I now consider this painting completed.
Crazy Squirrel
12x12 Acrylic on canvas
I painted this fun piece for my Zany fun-loving daughter Melony, who is an exceptional artist herself.

"Grandparents Blessings" NFS
12x12 Acrylic on canvas
Our Grandson, whom is a blessing to us.
Though in the past I've painted portraits in Watercolor or Chalk Pastel, I'm presently challenging myself with painting portraits in acrylic. It becomes challenging to create with fast drying medium and I don't use retarders preferring to keep my work area as non-toxic as possible.
I have to admit I am having great fun with this.

Dancing For Joy updated
Dancing for joy (no longer available)
Sometimes a painting needs to settle for awhile. The previous version of this was hanging where I saw it every morning after it came back from an exhibition. It felt unfinished to me so back on the easel it went for a work-over. The painting now has depth and is I believe a stronger piece.Thursday, April 7, 2016

Green City Window 2015
I participated in the Green Window project once again creating window displays for two establishments on 104th St this year. As it was in conjunction with Pride week the displays flowed with color.
Colorful handmade mobiles of hand-painted plastic mesh completed with yarn tassels.
boxes made from fence board cast offs and a discarded table colorfully re-painted
Recycled skirt from the juried Skirts Afire event was requested to be on display by the manager of C'est Sera, so it gains another public viewing. When the window display comes down the skirt will be returned to The Edmonton Reuse Store boardroom for others to enjoy.
Hand collage and painted column with bouquets of florals created with vegetable netting, paper, wire and baskets at Original Apparel.
Hand-painted mesh screen to hang behind the mannequins.
